Paul (Doug) May, 67, passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2016, peacefully in his sleep. Service: 2:30 pm Monday, August 22, at West Freeway Church of Christ, 8000 Western Hills Blvd, Fort Worth. Visitation: 1:00 pm (prior to service) at West Freeway Church of Christ. Interment: 4:00 pm graveside service at Greenwood Funeral Home, 3100 White Settlement, Rd, Fort Worth Doug was born in Waco, Texas on November 16, 1948, to Bennie and Billye May. He graduated from Furr High School in Houston, Texas, where he met the love of his life, Mary Klingsporn, at the age of 15. They were married November 24, 1967. Shortly after marriage, Doug enlisted in the Navy and was deployed to serve in the Vietnam War aboard the USS Chowanoc. Mary moved to San Diego, where he was stationed, to spend as much time as possible with him. After discharge in 1970, they returned to Texas to start a family. Doug had many jobs over the years, from mail carrier, salesman, truck driver to truck dispatcher. He did whatever was necessary to provide for his family. Doug never met a stranger and was known for his deep voice, hearty laugh and big personality. Doug was generous to a fault and loved others deeply. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family. He treasured the times he spent with numerous nephews and nieces, and later with his grandchildren. After many years in Deer Park, Texas, Doug and Mary moved to Fort Worth to spend their retirement with their grandchildren. Affectionately known as Papa, he took his role as grandfather seriously. He was heartbroken after the loss of his wife and best friend. Married nearly 49 years, he watched her life end too soon due to cancer. A recent heart attack, compounded by grief, proved to be too much. Despite his profound loss, he never lost faith in his Savior. He is now at peace, wrapped in the arms of his sweet Mary. Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Bennie and Billye May, and his loving wife Mary. Survivors: Son Paul May, Jr. and his wife, Crissy; daughter Melissa Hummelke and her husband, Geoff; grandchildren, Emma, Allyson and Jacob May and Beckett and Deacon Hummelke; brothers Mike and John May; and many other loving family members.
