GRAPEVINE -- Mae Lyon Luers, 89, passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at her residence in Grapevine, TX. A family memorial service will be held in Iowa, summer 2014. Mae ( never call her Mabel) was born on January 12, 1924 in Richland, IA. She was the oldest of four daughters born to Floyd and Ruby Lyon. She was a graduate of Richland High School, class of 1941. Mae was a Registered Nurse, earning her license from Deaconess Hospital in Marshalltown, IA. Mae served her country as a Staff Nurse at the U. S. General Hospital in Ft. Custer, MI. during the Korean War. Mae married Harold Arthur Luers on December 20, 1945. Mae was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend. She loved travel, golf, bridge, and cooking. Over the past 68 years Mae and Harold enjoyed many adventures including world travel destinations, sailing in the Carribbean and travel throughout the continental United States, Alaska, and Mexico. Mae and family were 35 year members of The First United Methodist Church in Manchester, IA. Mae and Harold are current members of The First United Methodist Church of Grapevine, TX. Survivors: Husband, Harold Luers, Son, Dennis Luers of Grapevine, TX; Daughter and Son-in-Law Karla and Steve Christensen of Elk River, MN; grandson Michael Luers of Richardson, TX; granddaughter Michelle and husband Jonathan O'Neal of Austin, TX; sisters Betty Jean Pischel of Oklahoma City, Okla. and Alma and husband Mervin Wright of St. Louis, MO. Extended family members include: Jenny and Sam Mottlow and children Jazlynne, Treyton, and Pyper of Elk River, MN; Jennifer and Kenny Wells and children Kendall, Jonny, and Jacob of Spring, TX. and Jared and Cydney Sisco of Everett, WA; along with numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
