Obituary of Mary Jane Henley

Mary Jane (“M.J.”) Henley passed away peacefully at White Settlement Nursing Center in Ft. Worth, Texas on Saturday, June 10, 2017, after enduring a decade-long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

A service in remembrance and celebration of Mary Jane’s life will be held Saturday July 22 at 2:00 p.m. at Marty Leonard Community Chapel located at 3200 Sanguinet Street, Fort Worth, TX 76107. 

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Cook Children's Medical Center in memory of Mary Jane. 

Mary Jane was born December 14, 1940, in Fort Worth to Frederick and Jane Shook. She graduated from Arlington Heights High School in 1960 and attended Texas Christian University. Mary Jane was the executive assistant to Ft. Worth businessman, professor and former dean of languages at TCU, Earnest Allen, for over 30 years.  Mary Jane also had a long and successful career as a real estate agent, most recently affiliated with Virginia Cook Realtors.

Mary Jane loved to travel and collect art from around the world which she proudly displayed in her home. She was a music lover and avid supporter of the Ft. Worth Opera. Most of all, Mary Jane loved to entertain and plan gatherings for friends and family.  She was never without a smile and always displayed kindness, love and respect to all with whom she interacted. Mary Jane is deeply missed. 

The family wishes to thank all of the doctors and health care professionals who cared for Mary Jane during her illness. The family would especially like to thank Mary Jane’s close friend Kendall Rojas for her love and indispensable support throughout Mary Jane’s illness. 

Survivors include: Son, Gregory W. Brooks and wife, Sarah Brooks, grandchildren Jack Brooks and Lucy Brooks of New York, N.Y.; brother, William Martin of Reichweiler, Germany; nephew, George Brin of Pomfret, Conn.; nieces, Michelle Munguia of Fort Worth and Taylor Brooks of Fort Worth
